Get the Full Picture: A Deep Dive into the Top Chrome Extension for Video Streaming

Video streaming has become one of the most popular online activities, whether it's watching a tutorial, catching up with a favorite series, or enjoying a movie night. However, streaming services and video player interfaces can sometimes limit our viewing experience. Thanks to the power of Google Chrome extensions , users can enhance their viewing experience. In this article, we will explore one of the best Chrome extensions for video playback, which has gained an impressive aggregate rating of 3.57 out of 5.

An Overview of the Chrome Video Capture Extension

Meet Ultrawidify, a top Chrome extension designed to optimize your video watching experience. This extension has been embraced by many users for entertainment apps, specifically for its ability to remove unnecessary black bars from videos, thus providing a more immersive viewing experience. Besides, it handles automatic aspect ratio detection, allowing it to adjust according to the video being played seamlessly. Furthermore, the extension supports most major streaming services, including YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, and Netflix.

Positive User Feedback and Reviews

The high rating of this Chrome extension is largely credited to its outstanding features and the positive user feedback it has received. Users have appreciated how it has transformed their video streaming experience. 'Ambrus Török,' for instance, praised it for being the only working extension they have come across and gave it props for its helpful error messages, despite a slightly complex user interface.

Positive feedback also comes from 'Mattia Mossenta,' who acknowledged the extension for providing a solution for the wrong aspect ratio, even when other extensions failed. 'PPP 414,' another satisfied user, shared their satisfaction with the extension after it enabled their YouTube movies to fill their new widescreen, thereby enhancing their watching experience greatly.

Understanding the Criticisms

Like any product, this Chrome extension has faced some criticisms as well. Some users have reported occasional glitches, such as the video being stretched instead of the black bars being cropped. 'Jarrod Lu' mentioned that the extension sometimes widened the video and left black bars, even with the stretch option turned off. '7h07h' noted that the extension no longer resizes the height and only stretches the width.

However, it's important to note that these criticisms have been addressed, with the developers providing timely fixes and helpful information to navigate through these common issues. For example, a fix was given for the problem of stretching videos instead of cropping, which was identified as a Google Chrome bug. Users are advised to go to the chrome://flags/#use-angle and select D3D9 to solve the problem.

This extension goes beyond just optimizing your video viewing experience. It's a life-enhancer that makes your online video watching more engaging and enjoyable. Worked for the first day I downloaded it but now it does nothing. None of the buttons change the video

Zette Zhou

Changing it back to 5 star since the previous design decision of adding the control overlay has been reverted.

Ben Phou

Broken again. Videos aligning to left side for no reason. Can't change to centre. Disabled extension and video went back to centre.

RealSenpai

6.0.0.1 update fixes everything we are back bois

Jerry Foster

How did you not realize the hover menu is so intrusive and distracting! I bump my mouse and *bam* there it is, right on top of the video constantly. Will be turning off until it gets changed.

Jamie Milliken

The hover menu is showing up on several websites that have embedded video content. It's obtrusive.

John San Juan (Juan)

The new hover menu is obstructive and annoying. Will uninstall for now

DarkSoul3092

it is a great extension it did work until they updated it recently and when ever i tell the settings for youtube to persist all the time the settings never save and they just reset so every time i watch another video i have to redo the settings i just applied all they had to do was not touch anything because it was working perfectly fine

Jake Leigh

i like the idea of the new on screen menu. definitely should be less obtrusive and only display when in full screen. This is a huge update though, and I appreciate the huge amount of work that went into it. waiting for the next update where the in player UI menu is fixed and stops covering up playback controls.

Don Hooper

Was great until today. Can't seem to turn off this "Aspect ratio Controls" hover to activate overlay that pops up every time I move the mouse. So annoying.

Joel R Montfort

I'm not sure what the issue is, I tried it on both firefox and chrome and was unable to get it to work. I watched a tutorial from several months ago on how to use the extension, and following the instructions it still doesn't work for me. It very well could be a youtube update that disabled it. I am very frustrated because this extension solves my main issue, being that youtube has black bars on all four sides of my videos, essentially shrinking the picture on my ultrawide monitor.

Video does not align correctly when hybrid stretch is selected for youtube only. Video is in the right size but pushed half offscreen to the right. In fullscreen it works as intended but I don't use youtube in fullscreen

LEX REX

Extension settings no longer show up. This happened because the extension stated that hardware acceleration is broken, and go to: brave://flags/#use-angle and I changed it to OpenGL which messed up YT videos and they would flicker, so I tried the other setting they recommended: D3D9 and it stopped the flickering. That said, after I changed the setting to D3D9, and click on the extension, I am no longer able to see the settings -- just a tiny square box. However, if I change it back to OpenGL, I can see the settings, but also affects the video playback. I then changed it back to Default and broke the settings. TLDR; The settings only work if I set brave://flags/#use-angle to OpenGL.

Yo24hua Base

Does'nt work on https://tele5.de/mediathek/stargate

Jairo Narvaez

Nice extension!, not the most user friendly, but it does help me crop the videos so that I can watch them full screen on a 4:3 display.

M D

not work with me

Kenneth Knight

Works great but makes youtube really laggy. Running an i7 and rtx2070

Jonathan Ramirez

Great for watching anime, use hybrid stretch setting to make everything fit perfectly in a 21;9 aspect ratio at 3440 x 1440

Jarrod Lu

Works most of the time, but sometimes it just stretches and widens the video and even still leaves black bars. Even with stretch option turned off. It should only crop out the black bars and not widen the video. eg: The 2.35:1 GTA V trailers on youtube

Risky

This extension causes the problem in the following reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/12eqt27/help_needed_with_missing_google_search_features/

Ambrus Török

Only working extension I have come across so far. Good: - Gives useful error messages. Bad: - A bit complex UI, but I don't mint it because it gives you plenty of options.

Christian

I had a bug on Netflix where when I went into full screen mode, my movie/show would be stretched out. It was annoying me so I did a search on reddit which brought me to here. This program told me what was wrong (it was a hardware acceleration issue and I had to select a different GPU processing engine or something) So though I didnt use the product for what it was mainly intended for, it did diagnose the problem and pretty much resolved it.

Mattia Mossenta

They gave me the fix for wrong aspect ratio, even with other extensions for ultawide. Thanks for the info about chrome://flags#use-angle
